GTA VI Was Official 26 Days Before Trailer 1

Rockstar confirmed the game in November, ahead of its first video

Trailer 1 is often treated as the starting line for GTA VI, but Rockstar had already made the game official. The company confirmed its development on November 8, 2023. Its first trailer followed on December 4, 2023, creating a 26-day gap between the two milestones.

That distinction matters when building an accurate GTA VI timeline. November was the point when the project became part of Rockstar’s official communication. December was when fans received the first visual presentation of the game.

According to Rockstar Games’ official record, the confirmation came first. From November 8 onward, the existence of GTA VI no longer rested on speculation. The announcement and the video reveal were separate steps.

Trailer 1 then arrived on December 4 with a much broader job to do. It introduced the return of Vice City within the fictional state of Leonida and showed Lucia Caminos leaving prison. The official material also established Lucia and Jason Duval as the two playable protagonists.

This means Trailer 1 did not have to confirm that development was underway. Rockstar had settled that question 26 days earlier. The trailer instead gave the confirmed project its first public images, locations and central characters.

The dates are easy to merge because both events happened near the end of 2023. Still, they identify different moments: November 8 for the development confirmation and December 4 for Trailer 1. Keeping both makes the early history of GTA VI clearer.

Rockstar continued to treat major videos as individual milestones. Trailer 2 premiered on May 6, 2025, according to the company’s official release record. It became another entry in the timeline rather than replacing the announcements that preceded it.

For fans documenting the road to launch, the first official milestone therefore belongs to November, not December. Trailer 1 remains the game’s initial visual showcase, but it was not the first acknowledgment from Rockstar. Exactly 26 days separate those two roles.

The first trailer understandably dominates memories of GTA VI’s reveal period. The official story, however, had already started before Vice City appeared on screen. Both dates come directly from Rockstar Games.
