GTA VI Has Had Three Official Launch Plans

The road from a broad 2025 window to November 19, 2026, included two official delays.

The official GTA VI release story has three distinct stages. Take-Two first pointed to 2025, Rockstar later moved the game to May 2026, and the current date is November 19, 2026. Those were sequential plans, not competing dates.

The timeline began without a launch window. Rockstar officially confirmed GTA VI on November 8, 2023. Trailer 1 followed on December 4.

A release target entered the picture on May 16, 2024. Take-Two projected that GTA VI would arrive in 2025. The company provided a yearly window rather than a specific release day.

Rockstar changed that plan on May 2, 2025. GTA VI was delayed to May 2026, with the studio saying it needed additional time to polish the game. This was the first official delay in the recorded schedule.

Trailer 2 arrived on May 6, only four days after that announcement. The new footage therefore debuted after the 2025 target had already been replaced. Rockstar’s official publication record confirms the trailer date.

May 2026 remained the plan until November 6, 2025. Rockstar then postponed GTA VI from May to November 2026. Unlike the earlier windows, this update established a precise day.

November 19, 2026, is the current official release date. It replaced both the broad 2025 projection and the later May 2026 target. Rockstar Games is the primary source for the date.

That date currently covers PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No official PC release date has been announced. The platform distinction matters because the confirmed console schedule does not establish a simultaneous PC launch.

Pre-orders opened at midnight local time on June 25, 2026. The Standard Edition was listed from US$79.99, although prices can vary by region and retailer. Rockstar followed that milestone with an Extended Look on August 27.

The clean version of the timeline is simple: 2025 became May 2026, and May became November 19, 2026. Two official delays separate the first projection from the current date. Every stage in that sequence comes from Rockstar Games or Take-Two announcements.
