Fan Creates GTA-Style Map of London
CityEd renamed the British capital using the series’ satire and cartography

Eurogamer has highlighted a map by YouTuber CityEd that imagines London within the Grand Theft Auto universe. The project reinvents the British capital through fictional names, satire and cartography inspired by Rockstar Games’ work. It offers a visual answer to a long-running fan question: what would a new GTA set in London look like?
CityEd described the project as a “GTA-ised” map of London. Rather than simply placing the series’ visual style over the real city, they reworked location names according to conventions seen across GTA. The result is a thought experiment, not a map for a game in development.
Among the examples provided, Kings Cross becomes Dukes Cross. Angel is turned into Saint, while the entire city is renamed Trafalgar. The changes retain links to the history or culture of each location while adding the kind of exaggeration associated with the series.
The project also attempts to reproduce other recognizable parts of Rockstar’s approach. CityEd points to exaggerated landmarks, GTA-style cartography and the games’ signature satire. Previous entries in the franchise served as references for carrying those conventions across the Atlantic.
According to the creator, Rockstar often starts with something historically or culturally associated with a real location. That characteristic is then exaggerated and converted into a fictional place name. CityEd applied the same reasoning to the London districts and landmarks included on the map.
The series previously visited the English capital through the GTA: London mission pack released in 1999. That title did not reinvent the city’s name or follow the model used by the new project. CityEd therefore said their version had to start from scratch.
The creative process is also explored in a 30-minute video. In it, CityEd explains how the real history of particular locations informed the map. Historical research consequently influenced both the new names and their satirical adaptation.
A PDF copy of the map was posted on CityEd’s Patreon. The source does not present the project as a mod, expansion or playable environment. It is a cartographic piece imagining how Rockstar might reinterpret London through GTA’s established language.
For fans, the map offers another way to discuss a possible British setting without treating it as an official plan. It also demonstrates how GTA’s geographic identity involves more than reproducing streets and landmarks. Fictional names, local references and satirical exaggeration help turn a real city into a place that feels consistent with the franchise.
Nothing in the report indicates that Rockstar Games participated in or approved the project. The map also has no effect on the platforms, prices or release dates of any GTA title. Its impact is creative, providing a fan-made visual interpretation of a setting the series visited in 1999.
It remains unclear how much of London the map covers or how many locations received new names. The source also does not say whether CityEd plans to expand the work or turn it into another kind of project. There is no indication of a playable version based on this interpretation of London.
Eurogamer presented the map as a fan response to the idea of a modern GTA set in the English capital. Its report emphasizes the use of local history and Rockstar’s naming conventions in shaping the concept. For now, Trafalgar exists only in CityEd’s cartographic reimagining.
