Gift Card Deal Cuts GTA 6's $100 Edition to $80

Costco members can get $100 in PlayStation Store credit for $80

A Costco promotion offers enough PlayStation Store credit to buy GTA 6's $100 Ultimate Edition for an $80 payment. The deal bundles four $25 PlayStation Store gift cards at the reduced price. According to GameSpot, the offer is restricted to Costco members.

The bundle provides $100 in PlayStation Store credit for $80. That creates a $20 difference between the amount paid and the credit received. The balance can cover the listed price of GTA 6's Ultimate Edition on PlayStation 5.

Costco is also offering two $75 gift cards for $120. This second option provides $150 in store credit, a $30 difference from the cards' face value. GameSpot lists both PlayStation Store offers as currently available options.

The promotions run through October 11 or while supplies last. That means availability is not guaranteed through the final day. Interested buyers must account for both the deadline and the limited supply condition.

Costco usually allows customers to shop online without a membership, while its membership costs $65 per year. These discounted PlayStation Store gift cards, however, are labeled as members-only offers. The ability to make other online purchases without joining therefore does not remove this deal's membership requirement.

The promotion also highlights a distribution difference between GTA 6's editions. The $80 version will be sold at retail through a code inside a box. The $100 Ultimate Edition, meanwhile, will seemingly not receive an equivalent physical retail release.

GameSpot notes that digital games offer better margins than copies sold through stores. That would make the $100 edition more profitable for Rockstar and Take-Two. Costco's deal does not change the edition's official price, but it lowers the cost of the credit used to purchase it.

The Ultimate Edition includes several digital extras. GameSpot's list includes special weapon variants, a retro-inspired car, a boat, and special clothing. These items are part of the package priced at $100.

The premium tier is also the only listed edition with access to a selection of in-game businesses. They include Rideout Customs for updating cars, Sara's Unisex Salon for new haircuts, and Electric Fang Tattoo. Access to these locations is tied to the $100 edition.

It remains unclear how these businesses will work for players who buy the $80 edition. There is no answer yet on whether their doors will be locked, whether access will require an additional payment, or whether the locations will be absent. The practical division between the two editions has not been explained.

GTA 6's ESRB rating says the game will include microtransactions, but their implementation has not been detailed. There is also no explanation of whether Ultimate Edition extras or location access can be purchased later. For now, the gift card offer only reduces the initial PlayStation 5 cost for eligible Costco members.

GTA 6 preload begins on November 12 and applies to digital and physical versions sold by retailers. The game unlocks on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, although this particular promotion involves PlayStation Store credit. The offer conditions, edition contents, and unanswered questions about the in-game businesses were reported by GameSpot.
