GTA 6 Preload and 212GB File Size Confirmed

Rockstar also set the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S release times

Rockstar has confirmed when GTA 6 preloading will begin on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, along with the worldwide release timing. The preload file may take up as much as 212GB, depending on the device. The game will unlock at local midnight on November 19 across both console families.

When preloading begins

On PS5, preloading opens at local midnight on Tuesday, November 10, in each respective time zone. Availability will therefore move from one region to another as each territory enters the new day. Rockstar advised players to make sure they have enough free space before the download becomes available.

The schedule works differently on Xbox Series X|S. Preloading begins at 12am GMT on November 10, based on UK time. In the United States, that corresponds to 4pm Pacific and 7pm Eastern on November 9.

The difference creates two distribution strategies for the same advance download. PlayStation 5 uses midnight in each local region, while Xbox receives a single starting point based on GMT. In both cases, preloading begins nine days before GTA 6 launches.

A local midnight launch

The worldwide release is set for November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar will use local midnight timing, allowing the game to unlock as each region officially enters the release date. The confirmation clarifies how the global launch will roll out across different time zones.

The source also mentions code-in-box versions for both console platforms. According to Rockstar, these versions “should” become available from retailers beginning November 12, one week before launch. That wording presents the date as an availability expectation rather than a guarantee covering every retailer or region.

For players who want to begin as soon as GTA 6 unlocks, preloading reduces the amount of data that must be transferred during launch night. They will still need to follow the schedule for their chosen platform. PS5 uses local time, while Xbox Series X|S uses GMT as its starting reference.

The file may reach 212GB

Rockstar said the preload file weighs up to 212GB, “depending on your device.” The information cited does not provide a separate size for each console model. The 212GB figure should therefore be treated as the announced upper limit, not necessarily the exact size every player will download.

The figure gives players a clearer basis for planning the installation. Anyone hoping to use the preload will need to check their available storage before November 10. The source does not say whether the final installed footprint will be identical to the maximum preload file size.

A Leonida map is also coming

On November 19, Rockstar will add a printable GTA 6 cover art poster and map of Leonida to its official site. The file will be offered as a free digital download. That makes the official map available on the same day players can enter the game.

A double-sided physical version of the poster will also arrive through the Rockstar Store shortly after launch. It will cost $0.99 when ordered on its own or come as a free gift with any Rockstar Store purchase. The source does not provide the physical poster’s exact availability date or pricing details for other markets.

Some details remain open, including the specific download size on each console model and the precise date the physical poster will reach the Rockstar Store. There is also no list of the retailers or regions expected to carry the code-in-box versions on November 12. The release times, 212GB maximum and plans for the map and poster were announced by Rockstar in information reported by IGN.
