Lana Del Rey says she cannot wait to get into GTA 6 and start playing. The 11-time Grammy-nominated singer will be part of the in-game Back Country Radio lineup. She made the comment to Rolling Stone, as reported by GameSpot.
Speaking about her involvement, Del Rey said the opportunity was special on many different levels and a privilege. “Can’t wait to get into the game and start playing,” the singer said. Her comment shows that her interest extends beyond the work she recorded for the station.
In GTA 6, Lana Del Rey will play Delta Dawne, one of the hosts of Back Country Radio. She will share the station with Morgan Wallen, who appears as MW. Rockstar Games announced the station as part of the new game’s radio lineup.
Del Rey’s husband, Jeremy Dufrene, will also lend his voice to Back Country Radio. He will play Mud Dog Mike, although the source does not detail the size of his role. The game’s stations will feature other musicians known outside the GTA universe as well.
The artists mentioned include Bad Bunny and Slayer members Kerry King and Tom Arya. Their involvement continues GTA’s tradition of incorporating real musicians into the identity of its radio stations. Del Rey also has a fitting connection to the medium through “Video Games,” a song from her 2012 album Born to Die.
For players, Del Rey’s involvement means she can be heard as a host rather than only through a licensed song. GTA 6 will let players listen to music while driving and follow podcasts on foot through headphones in Vice City. Radio programming can therefore remain part of the experience after players leave their vehicles.
GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. GameSpot also states that the game has been in development since 2015. No additional platforms were mentioned in this release information.
It remains unclear how much programming Delta Dawne will receive or how frequently her segments will appear on Back Country Radio. The interactions between the station’s different hosts have not been fully detailed either. GameSpot published the information and Del Rey’s comments based on her interview with Rolling Stone.
