Sensor Tower Estimates 7.71 Million GTA 6 Sales
Pre-purchases reportedly generated $751 million, with 74% of units sold on PS5.
Redação G6 World
Sensor Tower estimates that GTA 6 has already sold 7.71 million units through pre-purchases ahead of its November 19 launch. That volume would represent approximately $751 million in gross revenue. The unofficial figures come from an update to the research company’s GTA 6 sales tracker.
PS5 accounts for most of the sales
According to Sensor Tower, 5.74 million of those units were sold for PS5. Xbox Series X|S accounts for another estimated 1.97 million purchases. That puts the reported split at 74% for Sony’s console and 26% for Microsoft’s current platforms.
The difference between the consoles also appears in Sensor Tower’s revenue estimates. GTA 6 purchases on PS5 have reportedly generated $559 million, while Xbox Series X|S versions have reached $192 million. Together, those amounts form the estimated $751 million in gross revenue.
Those figures do not necessarily represent the full amount that will reach Rockstar Games or Take-Two. Sony and Microsoft keep about 30% of the revenue through their respective platform fees. GTA 6’s early commercial success therefore directly benefits both console manufacturers as well.
The split follows the console market
PS5’s lead is not surprising within the market described by Sensor Tower. Sony’s console is also ahead of Xbox Series X|S in hardware sales, although the source does not provide specific installed-base figures. GTA 6’s purchasing split therefore reflects the existing difference between the platforms.
That does not mean the Xbox performance is being treated as weak. Microsoft has said that GTA 6 is breaking records across its ecosystem, although no specific record category is given in the summary. According to the report, the game’s Xbox sales are consistent with the platform’s share of the console market.
The figures also show that launching on both console families does not necessarily produce an even sales split. GTA 6 will arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on the same date, but PS5’s larger position in the market is reflected in the early purchases. Sony also holds the PS5 marketing rights for the game.
Sensor Tower projects up to 25 million purchases
Sensor Tower projects that GTA 6 could reach as many as 25 million pre-purchases by launch. If the current 74% to 26% split holds, that would amount to approximately 18.5 million units on PS5 and 6.5 million on Xbox Series X|S. This is a projection, not a target or result confirmed by Rockstar.
The scale of the demand also appears in separate research cited by GameSpot. Circana data shows 29% purchase intent among console and PC players in the United States, the highest the company has ever measured for a game. That survey measures intent, however, and should not be added to Sensor Tower’s estimated sales.
What this changes for players
For players, the sales split does not change the announced platforms or release date. GTA 6 will unlock at midnight local time on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game is approximately 212GB, with preloading scheduled to begin more than a week before launch.
The projection of 25 million purchases is not a guarantee that GTA 6 will reach that total. It also remains unknown whether the ratio between PS5 and Xbox will stay stable during the final days of preorders or shift as launch approaches. Because the current figures are unofficial, there is no Rockstar- or Take-Two-confirmed preorder total for comparison.
For now, Sensor Tower’s data paints a picture of an enormous commercial debut that leans heavily toward PS5. Xbox would still have nearly 2 million units sold before launch, while Sony’s console is approaching 6 million. The figures and projections were reported by GameSpot based on Sensor Tower’s updated sales tracker.
