Sony Raises Forecast 6%, IGN Links Gain to GTA 6

The company cites third-party games, while the outlet points to the weight of Rockstar’s launch.

Redação G6 World

Sony has raised the sales and profit forecasts for its gaming business by 6%, and IGN linked the revision primarily to the imminent arrival of GTA 6. The company pointed to expected growth in third-party games, a category that includes Rockstar’s release. Sony, however, did not name GTA 6 when explaining the new figures.

The revision covers the Game & Network Services segment, which includes PlayStation and its services. Sony said the higher sales forecast reflected an “increase in sales of non-first-party game software titles.” The official wording does not identify which games are expected to drive that growth.

What Sony revised

The segment’s sales forecast rose 6%, supported by the expected performance of third-party games. GTA 6 fits that category because it is developed and published outside Sony’s studio structure. IGN, rather than the PlayStation maker, identified the game as the main title behind the projection.

Sony also raised its profit forecast for the gaming division by 6%. In this case, the company cited not only third-party games, but also improved costs and the impact of network service sales. That final group includes operations such as PlayStation Plus.

That distinction in attribution matters: the 6% increase is an official Sony figure, while the specific weight assigned to GTA 6 is IGN’s assessment. The source offers no estimate for how many copies of the game might be sold on PS5. It also does not say how much revenue or profit GTA 6 could generate for the platform.

Why GTA 6 entered the calculation

IGN bases its assessment on the marketing partnership between Sony and Rockstar Games. According to the outlet, PS5 has remained at the forefront of GTA 6 promotion, to the point that a casual observer might not realize the game is also coming to Xbox Series X and S. That prominence helps explain why the release matters to PlayStation’s expectations.

The gameplay shown so far has come from PS5, according to IGN. The marketing campaign also uses the message that GTA 6 “plays best on PS5.” This positions Sony’s console as the main marketing showcase, even though the game is not presented as an exclusive.

Xbox Series X and S remain among the platforms cited for GTA 6. Sony’s financial revision therefore does not change the game’s known availability or remove Xbox from the picture. What it shows is the expectation that a major third-party release can move PlayStation’s wider business.

The financial year covered by the forecast ends on March 31, 2027. During that same period, Sony expects the delay of God of War Laufey from February to May to weigh on results and shift sales into the following financial year. IGN argues that GTA 6’s commercial potential should leave Sony more comfortable with that movement.

What changes for players

The revision does not announce a price, edition, exclusive benefit, or new GTA 6 feature for PS5. It also does not change the platforms mentioned in the source. For players, the immediate takeaway is that PlayStation remains at the center of the marketing campaign without turning that advantage into exclusivity.

The wider platform context also helps frame the bet. Although PS5 sales continue to decline at this stage of the console’s lifecycle, Sony said the PlayStation ecosystem is still expanding in a stable manner. Monthly active users increased 7% year over year in September, reaching a September record of 127 million accounts.

What remains unknown

Sony did not reveal how much of the forecast increase depends on GTA 6, nor did it separate the expected impact across games, consoles, and services. The source also provides no official PS5 unit projection for the game or a comparison with Xbox. Without those figures, the 6% revision cannot be converted into a specific GTA 6 sales forecast.

The available picture therefore combines an official number with a clearly identified editorial assessment. Sony confirmed the revision and cited third-party software, while IGN put GTA 6 at the center of the expectation because of the launch’s scale and the PS5-focused campaign. The information was published by IGN.
