Bank Projects GTA Online for Early 2027

Bank of America believes the multiplayer mode could arrive between January and March, but Rockstar has not announced its plans.

A new version of GTA Online tied to GTA 6 could launch in the first quarter of 2027, according to a Bank of America projection. That window covers the period from January through March. Rockstar has not announced when or how the new game’s multiplayer component will be released.

The bank believes investors are not fully accounting for the commercial potential of what it called GTA Online 2.0. Its analysis identifies that possible launch as one reason to remain positive about Take-Two stock. The timing is therefore a financial projection, not a schedule released by the developer.

In a memo to investors, Bank of America recommended holding a long position in Take-Two through the GTA 6 launch. Going long means buying and holding the stock in anticipation of future gains. The bank also said Take-Two shares remain cheap.

The assessment comes as Take-Two stock struggles through a down year. According to the cited figures, the share price has fallen 21% in 2026 and dipped below $200 this week. Its 52-week high was $265.

Bank of America maintained a buy rating for Take-Two and set a price target of $330. That figure is lower than its previous target of $380. Even after the reduction, the new target would represent more than 60% upside from the current share price cited in the analysis.

Part of that optimism is tied to GTA Online’s history. The online mode associated with GTA 5 continues to generate revenue for Rockstar and Take-Two through microtransactions. The bank believes a new version could expand that model and give players more reasons to spend time and money in the game.

This does not amount to confirmation that a new GTA Online will arrive in early 2027. Rockstar is presenting GTA 6 as a single-player game, while the later arrival of some form of multiplayer remains an expectation. No date, specific platform plan, or structure for that online component has been announced.

There is precedent for separating the campaign and multiplayer launches. GTA 5 launched without immediate GTA Online support, while Red Dead Redemption 2 also arrived before its online mode. The projection considers it possible that GTA 6 could follow a similar strategy.

GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. If the bank’s window proves accurate, the new GTA Online would follow roughly two to four months after the campaign. Launch-day players would begin with the single-player experience and wait for the online expansion.

The analysis also suggests that a PC edition of GTA 6 could arrive around the same period. That possibility would further increase Take-Two’s expected revenue in early 2027. However, the source presents that PC window as a projection rather than a confirmed release date.

It remains unknown whether Rockstar would actually use the name GTA Online 2.0, whether multiplayer would be separate from or integrated into GTA 6, and whether current progress could transfer. Questions about pricing, microtransactions, platforms, and access also remain unanswered. The bank’s projection does not provide details on those points.

The first-quarter 2027 estimate was published by GameSpot based on Bank of America’s analysis. The investor memo was seen by Business Insider. Until Rockstar or Take-Two outlines its plans, the window should be treated as a financial projection.
