Twitch Boss Expects GTA 6 Multiplayer in 2027

Dan Clancy predicts an even bigger audience surge after the game launches

Twitch boss Dan Clancy expects GTA 6 multiplayer to launch in 2027 and generate an even bigger audience surge than the game’s debut. He said he had spent significant time talking with Rockstar about the company’s plans and ways to engage content creators. His prediction, however, is not an announcement from the developer.

According to IGN, Clancy discussed the subject in an interview with Bloomberg. The executive anticipates a major attention spike when GTA 6 arrives in November, followed by an even larger one the next year. In his words, that second surge would happen “when they launch multiplayer.”

Dan Clancy’s prediction

Clancy said Twitch and Rockstar had discussed the developer’s plans and how creators could become involved. The statement shows that the streaming platform is preparing for the attention surrounding the release. It does not reveal what specific information Rockstar shared during those conversations.

The Twitch boss also believes other game companies are right to avoid competing directly with GTA 6 for attention. He expects the November launch to be enormous and to command a substantial share of interest across the internet. His prediction is that the multiplayer component will drive another audience surge in 2027.

Rockstar has not announced when the multiplayer portion of GTA 6 will be released. The company has not even confirmed that the project will be called GTA Online 2, an informal name used to describe a possible successor to the current GTA Online. As a result, 2027 remains Clancy’s expectation rather than an official release window.

The source does not specify which part of 2027 could host that launch. Possibilities such as early, mid, or late 2027 remain unanswered. Rockstar has also not publicly established how much time will separate GTA 6’s debut from its multiplayer release.

The future of the current GTA Online

Another open question concerns the fate of the GTA Online connected to GTA 5. Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick previously answered theoretically about keeping older games active while their communities remain engaged. He avoided tying that policy directly to a project that had not been announced.

Zelnick used NBA 2K Online as an example of this approach. The first version launched in China in 2012, while NBA 2K Online 2 followed in 2017, according to the dates he cited. Both remained available at the same time to serve audiences that continued investing time in each title.

That example suggests a new GTA multiplayer experience would not necessarily require the current GTA Online to shut down. Zelnick said Take-Two has shown a willingness to support legacy titles when their communities want to remain engaged. No specific plan for two GTA online experiences to coexist has been confirmed, however.

What this means for players

For players, Clancy’s statement provides a possible timeframe but not a guarantee. Anyone planning to join GTA 6 multiplayer still lacks a confirmed date, price, name, access model, or separate platform list for that mode. The only window presented in the report is the expectation that it will arrive sometime in 2027.

The situation also matters to PC players. As IGN noted, GTA 6 will initially launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, leaving computer players to continue with GTA 5 and GTA Online or move to a console. The source does not say when GTA 6 or its future multiplayer component could reach PC.

What remains unknown

Rockstar still needs to confirm whether multiplayer will receive a separate launch, what it will be called, and how long it will follow the campaign. It is also unclear how Twitch creators might participate in the plans Clancy mentioned or whether the platform will receive any specific integration. For now, the concrete takeaway is that the Twitch boss expects two major attention spikes: one for GTA 6 in November and another for multiplayer in 2027, as reported by IGN.
