Fable has been delayed to February 23, 2027, and its director, Ralph Fulton, is pleased with the new date. According to comments reported by GameSpot, the move takes the game out of what he considers a chaotic late-2026 window. That period includes the November 19 launch of GTA 6.
The new Fable was supposed to arrive in 2026 before being pushed into the beginning of the following year. Fulton told IGN that he feels “great” about the new window, even though he had been looking forward to releasing the game this year. He also recalled having to gather the full team again in January and tell them that this would be the year they shipped Fable.
In the latest interview, the director said the reason for the delay was “pretty apparent to everybody.” Fulton added that the rationale was sound and that he was glad to avoid that chaotic window. He did not mention GTA 6 by name during this specific conversation.
The direct connection to Grand Theft Auto comes from an earlier statement by Fulton himself. In June, he said the move allowed Fable to escape a highly congested period and “obviously” avoid Grand Theft Auto. The director argued that a less contested window would also give Fable an opportunity to create its own moment and receive the attention it deserves.
The release calendar cited by GameSpot helps explain the situation. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for October 23, while GTA 6 arrives on November 19. Fable, now set for February 23, 2027, will launch away from both games.
For GTA 6 players, this change does not affect the Rockstar game’s date, platforms, price or access. What it provides is another direct indication of how its launch is influencing scheduling decisions elsewhere in the industry. In this case, the connection is not based only on an outside comparison, because Fable’s director previously named Grand Theft Auto while explaining the benefit of the delay.
It remains unclear how much individual weight GTA 6 carried in the decision to move Fable. The source does not say Rockstar’s game was the only factor, particularly because another major October release occupies the same general window. Fulton’s latest reference was also limited to the phrase “chaotic window” and did not name GTA again.
Fable will launch for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC on February 23, 2027. GameSpot reported the comments from Ralph Fulton’s IGN interviews, including his explicit June statement about avoiding Grand Theft Auto. For GTA fans, the confirmed takeaway is straightforward: another major release chose to create distance from the calendar surrounding November 19.
