GTA 6 Choices Will Affect Jason and Lucia
Big and small decisions, along with time spent in the open world, will influence the story and the pair’s relationship.

GTA 6 will feature choices both big and small that can influence Jason and Lucia’s story. In an interview with IGN, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson explained that player decisions will add up and may affect both the protagonists’ Criminal Profiles and their relationship. Simply completing the campaign missions may not be enough to keep the pair together.
Nelson said some smaller choices will build toward something meaningful, while certain larger decisions will matter significantly at the moment they are made. Rockstar is exploring how much of each protagonist belongs to the character written by the studio and how much can reflect the person playing. According to the developer, GTA 6 continues an approach the studio pursued most consciously in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Jason and Lucia’s relationship will be part of that player agency. Nelson said the two begin the story wanting to give their relationship a chance, but completing missions together may not be enough to keep them as a couple. Players will have to spend some time with them in the open world, strengthening the bond between the characters and their own investment in the story.
IGN also reports that Jason and Lucia’s safehouses across the fictional state of Leonida will operate more like Red Dead Redemption 2’s interactive camps than traditional Grand Theft Auto homes. In the western, staying at camp allowed players to speak with gang members and encounter both narrative conversations and incidental small talk. In GTA 6, these locations are expected to help develop relationships beyond the main mission flow.
Nelson used Arthur Morgan to explain the thinking behind this approach. In Red Dead Redemption 2, certain kind acts were removed from the mandatory story path and made optional, allowing players to take a more active role in a potential redemption arc. Arthur’s honor level also changed details in cutscenes, his stated motivations and specific parts of the ending.
GTA 6 will apply that broader idea through Jason and Lucia’s Criminal Profiles, which will change according to the outcome of choices both large and small. The source describes the system as the game’s equivalent of Red Dead Redemption 2’s honor mechanic, adapted to the new protagonists and their relationship. Decisions and the way players develop the romance will be able to affect the story, although Nelson did not detail every possible consequence.
For players, the main difference is that optional open-world activities may carry genuine narrative importance. Visiting safehouses, spending time with the pair and investing in their relationship are presented not merely as distractions between missions, but as part of building the protagonists. This points to a campaign in which Jason and Lucia’s connection also depends on what the player does away from the primary objectives.
It remains unknown how many endings GTA 6 will have or how dramatically the story can change based on the Criminal Profiles and the state of the relationship. The interview also does not specify which activities will bring Jason and Lucia closer, which decisions could pull them apart or whether every choice will have a visible effect. For now, Nelson has confirmed that choices both big and small will exist, that their effects can accumulate and that spending time together in the open world will help sustain the couple, as reported by IGN.
