GTA 6 Sets US Purchase Intent Record
Circana data shows that 29% of US console and PC gamers intend to buy the game.

GTA 6 has reached the highest purchase intent Circana has ever recorded for a game. According to the new data, 29% of console and PC gamers in the United States intend to buy it. The game is scheduled to launch on November 19.
GTA 6’s record
That percentage is equivalent to nearly one in three gamers within the surveyed audience. Circana says it has never measured purchase intent this high for any other game. The record has been set before GTA 6 has even reached the market.
The study measures intent rather than completed sales. This means the 29% represents consumers who say they plan to buy the game, without guaranteeing that all of them will do so at launch. Even so, the result provides a direct measure of the scale of advance demand for the new GTA in the United States.
Circana’s Mat Piscatella described GTA 6 as a “rare cultural and commercial moment” for gaming. According to the analyst, demand has been fueled by the 13-year gap between GTA 5 and GTA 6. That prolonged wait helps explain why interest has reached an unprecedented level in the company’s tracking.
An impact beyond game sales
Piscatella expects demand to extend beyond software sales. He said consumers are also likely to spend on consoles, accessories, and gaming subscriptions as they prepare for launch. GTA 6’s commercial impact could therefore reach several parts of the market at once.
The November 19 release places the game shortly before Black Friday and the beginning of the holiday shopping season. Piscatella believes that calendar position could help increase sales of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The potential boost will depend on how many players decide to buy or upgrade their hardware for the game.
The analyst also said GTA 6’s anticipation and popularity reinforce gaming’s growing influence across the broader entertainment and consumer technology markets. In that context, the release is not being viewed solely as a major debut for Rockstar. It could also move product categories connected to the way people play games.
What this changes for players
For fans, the data suggests that a large audience is planning its purchase in advance. That preparation may involve not only the game, but also a console, accessories, or a subscription. With the launch taking place close to Black Friday, those decisions will fall directly within the busiest part of the retail calendar.
The study included console and PC users, but GTA 6 has so far only been confirmed for consoles. Purchase intent among PC gamers therefore does not represent an announced platform for the November 19 launch. That distinction matters when interpreting Circana’s 29% figure.
Separate Sensor Tower data cited by the source estimates that GTA 6 has already sold around 7 million units and generated $675 million in revenue. The company also projects that the game could reach 25 million preorders. Under that forecast, pre-release revenue would reach $2 billion.
Those Sensor Tower figures are estimates and projections, unlike the purchase-intent rate measured by Circana. They point toward a commercial launch on a massive scale, but they do not guarantee that the predicted levels will be reached. Converting interest into actual purchases will remain the decisive test.
What remains unknown
It also remains unclear how much of this demand will translate into new console, accessory, and subscription sales. The source notes that consoles are more expensive, which could make hardware upgrades difficult for part of the audience. The total cost of preparing for launch will be a practical factor for anyone who does not yet own a compatible platform.
Even if GTA 6 boosts multiple areas of the market, it is not being presented as a solution to the industry’s deep-rooted problems. What the data currently shows is a purchase-intent record and an expectation of commercial effects beyond the game itself. The information was published by GameSpot based on Circana’s data and Sensor Tower’s estimates.
