Miami Beach Approves GTA 6 Campaign Talks

The proposal calls for discreet ads on beach chairs and umbrellas, with benefits worth close to $4 million for the city.

Miami Beach has approved the opening of negotiations with Rockstar Games for a GTA 6 advertising campaign in the city. According to Eurogamer, the proposal advanced on a 4-3 vote after a debate among commissioners. The vote allows the deal to be negotiated, but it does not represent a final partnership.

The campaign would place GTA 6 advertising on beach chairs and umbrellas operated by Boucher Brothers. Its presentation would be discreet, using the Roman numeral VI or the name Vice City instead of the words Grand Theft Auto. The format is designed to connect the campaign with Miami Beach while limiting the franchise’s full name across the participating spaces.

The money under discussion

Commissioner Laura Dominguez said Rockstar is currently expected to pay $3 million. She also indicated that the city would try to negotiate a higher amount before completing the agreement. Because talks are still ahead, that figure should not be treated as the final price.

Commissioner Tanya Katzoff Bhatt offered another measure of the proposal’s financial impact. According to her, the benefits for Miami Beach would be closer to $4 million. Bhatt argued that this amount could fund the renovation of the Flamingo football field, a project that currently lacks funding.

Schedule and restrictions

The current plan calls for the campaign to begin on October 15 and remain active through the end of the year. The advertising would not appear at Miami Beach’s Art Basel event in early December. That exclusion creates an important limit even within the proposed campaign period.

The ads would also stay off city property. That restriction includes iconic landmarks and lifeguard stands, which would not participate in the campaign. GTA 6’s presence would therefore be concentrated on the beach chairs and umbrellas discussed during the meeting.

A close vote

Approval was far from automatic, with some commissioners questioning whether the city should associate itself with a series built around criminal activity. Commissioner David Suarez showed footage from GTA 5 and GTA 6’s extended preview during the meeting. While discussing the police chase shown in the preview, he said the association was not worth any amount of money.

Bhatt defended the opposite position, saying the campaign would come to the region with or without Miami Beach’s involvement. In her view, rejecting the agreement would mean missing a valuable financial opportunity for the city. The one-vote margin shows how closely the commissioners weighed GTA’s public image against the proposal’s economic value.

The debate has also reached officials outside the commission. Miami-Dade County Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz questioned the message sent when a government promotes a fictional identity centered on crime. Her criticism shows that approving negotiations has not ended the public debate surrounding the campaign.

Another promotion could reach the Kaseya Center

Freelance Miami journalist Francisco Alvarado also reported that Rockstar, Miami-Dade County and Miami Heat affiliate Basketball Properties were close to completing a separate agreement. That negotiation would involve a giant GTA 6 sign on the roof of the Kaseya Center. The source does not present that possible installation as part of the deal considered by the Miami Beach commission.

What this changes for fans

For players waiting for GTA 6, the vote does not change its price, platforms, access or release date. Its practical effect would be to make the game’s marketing visible on the beaches starting in October if negotiations produce an agreement. The use of Vice City and VI would strengthen the promotional connection between the game and the region that inspires its setting.

The final value, contract date and number of chairs or umbrellas included in the campaign remain unknown. The schedule and other terms could also change while negotiations continue. As Eurogamer reports, what has been approved so far is the continuation of talks, with proposed limits on location, presentation and timing already disclosed.
