Stephen Root has won his first Emmy and become the second Emmy-winning actor to appear in a GTA game, according to GameSpot. The actor recently confirmed that he will be in GTA 6 as Brian Heder. The achievement adds another television connection to the game’s cast.
The two developments occurred on consecutive days in September. Root confirmed his GTA 6 involvement on September 13 after people had already recognized his voice as Brian Heder’s. On September 14, he received the first Emmy of his career for Widow’s Bay.
Root won Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. In the Apple TV production, described as eerie and humorous, he plays Wyck. The cast also includes Matthew Rhys in the leading role of Tom.
The first Emmy-winning actor to appear in GTA was James Woods. He voiced Mike Toreno in GTA: San Andreas, which was released in 2004. Root’s victory brings the list identified by GameSpot to two actors.
Woods won two Primetime Emmy Awards for lead acting, receiving them for Promise in 1987 and My Name Is Bill W in 1989. He also earned a Daytime Emmy for playing Hades in Disney’s animated Hercules spin-off. Root joins that group with his first Primetime Emmy victory.
For GTA 6 players, the award does not change any information about the release, platforms, or gameplay. It instead adds context to Root’s involvement and highlights the experience of one known member of the cast. Brian Heder is the character associated with the actor.
Rockstar has not officially announced GTA 6’s casting details. The actors playing protagonists Lucia and Jason, along with the rest of the main cast, also remain unidentified. Root’s status as the second Emmy-winning actor in GTA history was highlighted by GameSpot.
