Rockstar Union Vote Will Coincide With GTA 6 Launch

Employees will vote from November 12 to 26, a period covering GTA 6's console launch.

Rockstar employees will hold a union recognition vote from November 12 to 26. The period begins one week before and ends one week after GTA 6's November 19 console launch. The vote will determine whether the company formally recognizes the IWGB Rockstar Game Workers Union.

If the proposal passes, the union will become the largest game industry union in the United Kingdom. Recognition would give employees an organized voice in decisions affecting their work at Rockstar. The result, however, will not be known until the two-week process is complete.

The issues cited include pay, bonuses, overtime and potential redundancies. The union also wants a role in discussions about flexible working arrangements and generative AI policies. Pensions and parental leave are among the other subjects highlighted by the organization.

Rockstar Game Workers Union committee member Shanti Easton-Steel directly connected the vote with the launch of GTA 6. She said November presents a chance to make history twice, as players experience the team's work and employees seek to have their voices heard. Her statement places union recognition alongside one of the studio's most important moments.

Easton-Steel said the vote is also about honesty and openness surrounding decisions that affect workers. According to her, a lack of transparency makes it harder to address the gender pay gap, changing overtime-pay policies and concerns about job security after release. She said she is proud of the games Rockstar gives its fans and wants to be equally proud of the voice it gives its staff.

IWGB president Alex Marshall also described the vote as historic for the industry and the people who keep it running. For Rockstar workers, he argued, the question is particularly personal. Marshall characterized the process as a choice about having a say in how day-to-day working life is organized.

The terms of the recognition agreement have been under negotiation between the union and Rockstar management since July. The broader unionization effort began before those formal discussions. November's vote is the next stage in that process, but it will not automatically settle every detail of how recognition would operate.

The campaign came under intense attention in October 2025, when Rockstar fired 31 employees. The IWGB called the dismissals a blatant act of union busting, while Rockstar alleged that the employees had been leaking GTA 6 information in a public Discord. The dispute is now before an employment tribunal in Scotland.

Rockstar has not specifically commented on the approaching vote. Head of publishing Jennifer Kolbe previously indicated that management does not intend to resist a decision in favor of unionization. In a statement cited by PC Gamer from a Bloomberg report, she said the company would follow the team's choice and would have a union if employees wanted one.

For players waiting for GTA 6, the clearest connection is the calendar. The source reports no change to the November 19 date, the launch platforms or access to the game because of the vote. The union process will take place alongside the console release, with no player-facing change announced.

It is not yet known whether a majority of participating employees will support union recognition. The final terms of the agreement under negotiation since July, and how representation would work in practice if approved, also remain open. Rockstar has yet to provide a specific response to the November 12-26 voting schedule.

Its proximity to GTA 6 gives the vote unusual visibility, but the outcome will concern employee representation and working conditions. The launch and the union process will share the same period without the source indicating that either will interfere with the other. Details of the schedule, negotiations and statements from the parties involved were reported by PC Gamer.
