GTA VI: how the release changed twice
The official schedule moved from a 2025 window to May and then November 2026
Redação G6 World
GTA VI now has a specific release date, but its official schedule did not begin with one. The public timeline progressed from a broad 2025 target to May 2026 and then to November 19, 2026. Looking at those steps separately makes the changes easier to understand without turning earlier windows into dates they never were.
A year before a month
Rockstar Games confirmed GTA VI on November 8, 2023. Trailer 1 followed on December 4, formally opening the game’s trailer campaign. The registered announcements from that period did not provide a specific launch day.
Take-Two supplied the first recorded release window on May 16, 2024. At that point, GTA VI was projected to arrive in 2025. Because no month or day accompanied that target, it should be treated as an annual window rather than a fixed appointment.
That 2025 plan changed on May 2, 2025. Rockstar moved GTA VI to May 2026 and said it needed additional time to polish the game. This was the first official revision in the release schedule covered by the available records.
Trailer 2 did not create a new date
Trailer 2 premiered on May 6, 2025, only four days after the May 2026 announcement. The trailer became another major milestone in GTA VI’s rollout, but the recorded release target still came from Rockstar’s separate May 2 statement. Keeping those announcements distinct prevents the trailer’s date from being confused with a scheduling update.
May 2026 remained the official target until November 6, 2025. Rockstar then moved the game to November and confirmed November 19, 2026 as the release date. The schedule had finally advanced from a broad year to a month and then to a complete calendar date.
There are therefore three official targets in this sequence and two revisions. Take-Two first projected 2025, Rockstar later announced May 2026, and Rockstar ultimately selected November 19, 2026. That wording reflects the different levels of precision used in each announcement.
The schedule around launch
The 2026 rollout also includes two confirmed milestones before release. Pre-orders opened at midnight local time on June 25, with the Standard Edition listed from US$79.99 and regional or retailer differences acknowledged. Rockstar’s Extended Look presentation followed on August 27.
The confirmed launch platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No official PC release date is included in the registered information, so the November date cannot be presented as a PC commitment. Rockstar’s current description also identifies GTA VI as a single-player experience without providing launch details for an online mode.
This timeline is not a collection of rumors or inferred targets. Its stages come from Take-Two’s May 2024 projection and Rockstar Games announcements issued in 2025. The distinction matters because every change discussed here was publicly recorded by one of the companies responsible for the game.
November 19, 2026 is the current official endpoint of the journey. It replaced May 2026, which had already replaced the original 2025 window. Sources: Take-Two and Rockstar Games through their recorded official release announcements.
