FiveM and RedM: the tech behind GTA RP
Multiplayer mods that Rockstar ended up embracing
Redação G6
Roleplay servers do not run on the standard multiplayer. They run on community frameworks — FiveM for Grand Theft Auto V and RedM for Red Dead Redemption 2 — that allow custom scripts, jobs, vehicles and economic systems.
The turning point
For years these platforms lived in a grey area. In August 2023 Rockstar Games announced that the Cfx.re team behind FiveM and RedM would officially join the company. It was formal recognition that roleplay had become part of the game's life.
What changes
- Servers gained legal stability to operate.
- Monetisation now follows public guidelines: no selling gameplay advantage.
- The developer community got a direct channel to the publisher.
For the average player the reading is positive: roleplay stopped being tolerated and became a recognised part of the ecosystem.
