Consoles Remain in Stock Ahead of GTA 6
IGN found PS5 and Xbox at MSRP, with PS5 Pro the exception
Redação G6 World
Fans who still need a console for GTA 6 are facing a less severe situation than recent supply warnings might suggest. An IGN survey of major online retailers found nearly every current model available at its manufacturer-suggested retail price. The major exception is the PS5 Pro, which was sold out at the stores checked.
The findings offer a snapshot of inventory before Black Friday and GTA 6's November 19 launch. Availability varies between retailers, but the main PS5 and Xbox Series X|S models can still be found without turning to resellers. IGN cautions that this picture could change as both dates get closer.
The PS5 Pro is the most difficult console to obtain in the survey. New units are sold out, while used consoles and third-party listings cost around $1,500. IGN advises buyers to approach those elevated prices at their own risk.
The standard PS5 with a disc drive is widely available across the retailers checked. The report considers it unlikely that this model will be discounted during PlayStation's Black Friday sale this year. Even so, buyers can currently obtain it without paying the large premium attached to the PS5 Pro.
The digital PS5 costs $599.99 and also remains available, although the situation differs by store. Amazon and GameStop were sold out of new units when the survey was conducted. Other retailers still had the console in stock.
On the Xbox side, the standard Series X with a disc drive was available at most retailers. Target and Microsoft itself were sold out, but other stores offered the system at MSRP. That points to uneven supply rather than a complete shortage of the model.
The Xbox Series S can also be found at MSRP. IGN reported availability for both versions, which differ in the amount of included storage. The survey also found the Nintendo Switch 2 widely available, although the source does not connect that system to GTA 6's launch.
Warnings about potential shortages appeared before this retailer check. Xbox head Asha Sharma recently said demand was higher than the number of available Xbox consoles, while Microsoft encouraged owners to trade in older systems. Sony, meanwhile, was offering $400 to buy back a PS5, according to IGN.
Suggested retail prices have also increased in recent years, so availability does not necessarily mean consoles are inexpensive. The report adds that Sony plans to move away from discs starting in January 2028, even though it currently continues to sell a PS5 with a disc drive. For anyone choosing a system with GTA 6 in mind, format and price remain important parts of the decision.
The immediate takeaway for fans is straightforward: there is still time to buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S without paying the premium attached to a PS5 Pro. IGN says it is possible that more players will rush to purchase consoles when GTA 6 launches on November 19. Preloads begin on November 10, according to the report.
It is not yet clear whether current inventory will withstand both Black Friday and the arrival of GTA 6. There is also no confirmation of how heavily each model may be discounted, although IGN considers a price cut for the disc-based PS5 unlikely. Any shortages or further price increases after those dates remain possibilities rather than confirmed outcomes.
For now, the survey indicates that most buyers can still choose among current console models at their suggested prices. Anyone specifically seeking a PS5 Pro faces a much more limited and expensive market. IGN compiled the stock, pricing, and availability information by checking major online retailers.
