Justice Keeps GTA 6 Hype Away While Making Its Score
The duo recognizes the game's enormous expectations but kept that pressure out of its creative process

Justice is composing GTA 6's original score without allowing the enormous expectations around the game to control its creative process. Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay said they are aware of the long wait and intense hype, but try to observe that movement from the outside. The French duo also revealed that the music blends a subtle '80s influence with futuristic sounds.
Augé acknowledged that Justice can see the GTA 6 “colossus” approaching. At the same time, the musicians maintain some mental distance from the attention so those thoughts do not intrude on their work. The approach is not about ignoring the project's scale, but preventing it from dictating every musical decision.
The comments show how Justice is handling an assignment surrounded by unusual expectations. The composers must give the game a distinct sound while millions of fans follow every new piece of information. For Augé and de Rosnay, treating the phenomenon as something partially external helped preserve their creative space.
GTA 6's sound was built from several sources and instruments, according to the duo. The goal was to create a unique “flavor” without reducing the score to a single reference point. Justice did not begin the process by imposing a rule that it had to make explicitly '80s-inspired tracks.
That retro influence emerged as a consequence of the choices made during composition. Augé said they knew what they needed to do and the result happened to acquire that character. The presence of an '80s flavor therefore does not mean the entire score will be confined to a nostalgic aesthetic.
One example involves a sound that could be mistaken for a guitar. According to Augé, the instrument is actually a synthesizer because a guitar could not produce that heavily phased and futuristic texture. The detail captures the duo's intended combination: a recognizable reference transformed through electronic tools.
The first single offered as a sample of this work is Flower in a Hurricane. The track features Tame Impala, SZA, and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. It accumulated 2.8 million YouTube plays in less than a week, according to GameSpot.
De Rosnay described the performers as artists Justice had always wanted to work with. The duo did not begin with the certainty that everyone would fit on the same recording, but said the collaboration emerged naturally and developed gradually. The result brought several of Justice's desired collaborators together on one song connected to GTA 6.
The original score will be part of a broader musical package. GTA 6 will also feature multiple radio stations and podcasts, described as the next evolution of in-game radio. The official album will contain 34 songs written specifically for GTA 6, including new music from Keith Richards and Travis Scott.
For players, this indicates that the music will not be limited to selections played through radio stations. The package includes an original Justice score, an album created for the project, and content spread across radio stations and podcasts. That variety expands the ways music can accompany the experience, although the source does not explain how each element will be used during gameplay.
The interview does not provide the complete 34-song track list or explain the division between the score, album, radio stations, and podcasts. It also leaves open which other artists are involved and how the compositions will be triggered inside GTA 6. Justice's description clarifies the creative direction, but it does not reveal the full musical structure prepared for the November 19 launch.
The key development is that Justice did not treat the '80s atmosphere as a rigid instruction, even while working on a game carrying enormous expectations. The duo pursued an identity mixing retro echoes, synthesizers, and futuristic textures while keeping the hype outside the studio as much as possible. The comments were made to BBC Radio 1 and reported by GameSpot via NINE1NINE.
