A mod is bringing random UFO sightings to the GTA 5 map. Called UFO Sightings, the script was tested by PC Gamer as part of an ongoing series devoted to modifying the game. The first encounter happened above a downtown Los Santos intersection and proved far less subtle than the writer expected.

The test belongs to a series in which the outlet installs a different GTA 5 modification every day. Its humorous goal is to either transform the game into a PC version of GTA 6 or break it entirely in the process. This time, the experiment focused on extraterrestrial encounters across the map.

UFO Sightings is described as a simple script that spawns a UFO at random locations. Its goal is to create an eerie and mysterious experience without telling the player in advance where the object will appear. The sightings follow one important condition, however: they only happen at night.

That time restriction was not initially clear to the writer. He spent a while flying around Mount Chiliad at high noon without finding any visitors from another world. Instead of a UFO, he encountered groups of hitmen that were already present because of other modifications installed in the game.

After realizing the mistake, the writer moved GTA 5's clock forward. A distant section of the map immediately began glowing red. An on-screen notification announced that a UFO sighting had been reported.

The alert indicated the area where the new event was taking place. To reach it quickly, the writer used Superman powers previously added to the game. The combination shows that multiple mods remained active at the same time during the experiment.

The expectation was to find a distant disc that would be difficult to identify, preserving the uncertainty associated with a traditional UFO story. The encounter created by the mod took a different approach. The object appeared roughly 30 feet above an intersection in downtown Los Santos.

In addition to hovering close to the ground in an urban area, the UFO produced intense flashes. The PC Gamer writer described the strobing as strong enough that he avoided turning the footage into an animated image for the article. The sighting therefore drew attention through its visual intensity rather than its mystery.

At some point, possibly after being hit with the powers used by the player, the object stopped flashing. The UFO then began to ascend before disappearing completely. The encounter had an arrival, a change in behavior, and a conclusion within the same visit.

The result did not match the subtle scene imagined before the test, but the event worked. The mod generated a nighttime sighting at a random point and marked its location for the player. The scene also changed during the interaction before the object left the visible map.

For GTA 5 players, the change is straightforward: the mod adds nighttime UFO encounters at random locations across the map. That creates another reason to explore Los Santos and its surrounding areas after dark. The source does not provide a price, requirements, compatible versions, or access instructions.

It also remains unclear how many locations can host sightings or whether every encounter follows the same behavior. The test covers only this first experience and does not establish the script's complete range of events. According to PC Gamer, the UFO above downtown Los Santos eventually ascended and disappeared after the interaction.
